Douglas M. Poorman, DVM – I am a 1997 graduate of The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine. I have been practicing veterinary medicine for 20 years and have had the opportunity to work on large and small animals, as well as a variety of exotic pets. Petplex Animal Hospital opened in November of 2003, and I have enjoyed the generous support of the Buckeye Lake community. We moved into our current facility in March of 2010 and have been excited to be able to offer our clientele improved services because of the additional space in the new hospital.I grew up in a rural community similar to Buckeye Lake and enjoyed spending time in the summer on my grandparent’s farm. I have always had a variety of pets (dogs, cats, etc.) and spent a good deal of my childhood working with livestock and horses. These experiences have always drawn me toward the field of veterinary medicine and helped me appreciate the human animal bond.I am pleased that my staff and I are able to provide exceptional care for the pets in our community. As we get to know our clients it becomes more and more obvious that the pets we see are more like members of family and that when they hurt, we hurt too. We always try to treat our patients with the same care and concern that we would want for the loved ones in our lives.
Julie Mestemaker, DVM – I graduated from The Ohio State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Zoology in 1993 followed by a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in 1997. I live in Granville where my husband and I have raised/are raising four wonderful children. We have three pets at the present time who all add to the fun and excitement of the busy household. They include Ziggy, a smart and very athletic nine year old Viszla; Sweetie, a pleasant nine year old cat who came to us as a stray kitten; and Frisco, a frisky kitten we adopted from the animal shelter last summer.
I like many aspects of veterinary medicine but am particularly interested in preventative medicine, internal medicine, dermatology and dentistry. I am able to practice a higher quality of medicine since Petplex Animal Hospital is built on a strong foundation of doctors and support staff. I am surrounded by a group of knowledgeable, dedicated and compassionate individuals which leads to great client relationships and patient care. I have enjoyed meeting so many wonderful clients and their pets over the past many years and look forward to meeting many more!
Mary Edge, DVM – I am an Ohio native and grew up on a small family farm in eastern Ohio. Veterinary medicine was something I was drawn to from a very young age. I graduated from OSU for both my undergraduate studies of Biology and Animal Sciences in 2007 and Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 2013. My journey in veterinary medicine has been nothing short of an adventure. In addition to companion animals, I have also had the opportunity to work with livestock, zoo and wildlife, and in biomedical research.
I joined the team at Petplex in 2017. My favorite part of working at Petplex is being able to offer a higher level of care thanks to advanced diagnostics and treatment options that are not available in most general practices. I truly enjoy all aspects of my job but find the challenging cases to be especially rewarding. I am also game to see companion farm animals including chickens, goats, and potbelly pigs!
I currently reside in Pataskala with my husband and our two wonderful children. Our fur kids include two dogs, one cat, three pygmy goats, and three chickens - we refer to it as our funny farm. During my free time, I enjoy being outdoors and active, listening to live music (especially country!), trying new restaurants, and spending quality time with family and friends.
Amber Kostelansky, DVM –
Drew Sollenberger, DVM – Dr. Sollenberger joined Petplex as an Associated Veterinarian in Spring 2018. He finally settled in Ohio after bouncing around the east coast a bit, earning a bachelor’s degree in Animal Science from Virginia Tech before attending veterinary school at The Ohio State University. Growing up near his grandparents’ farm in Pennsylvania, Dr. Sollenberger got to spend lots of time developing his interest in veterinary medicine with farm and equine veterinarians. His professional focus is Internal Medicine, and he is currently Petplex’s resident Feline Friendly Practitioner. Dr. Sollenberger currently lives in Blacklick, OH with his family and pets. His favorite hobbies include fishing, gardening, woodworking, and trying in vain to keep his cat off the dining room table.
Kristin Rubach, MS, DVM – I grew up in Buffalo, NY and always had pets (including goats and rabbits) and had a passion for caring for them. I graduated from Alfred University in 2013 with a double major in chemistry and biology. I then went to Auburn University, Alabama to pursue a Master’s degree in Biological Sciences and graduated in 2016. While I was there, I spent three summers in Calgary, Alberta, Canada doing field research for my thesis project on Columbian ground squirrels. I earned my DVM degree from Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine in 2020 and completed my clinical year of vet school at The Ohio State University.
I enjoy all aspects of general practice and have developed particular interests in preventative medicine, dentistry and soft tissue surgery. I am always eager to try new skills and techniques to further my knowledge in veterinary medicine and to provide the best care possible to my patients.
In my spare time I like to go to hike with my dogs, Zoey and Hudson, visit new restaurants, watch football, and catch up on Netflix shows.
